tweaking the first window ?

Hi,

Just install WPK and put it in french (my mothertale).

I just got 2 little problems when starting :

- I want to get the first window where i want on my desktop and not into the center of the screen, is it possible to dot this ?
I searched in the options but didn't find anything about it.

- I want to get the first window at the size i will because it's a little bit to narrow for the french language. Possible ?
I searched in the options and find to block the size of the window which works fine but not for the first window.

Hi TaZmaniak, welcome to the forum!
I have some questions for you, just to exactly focus the problem.
1) What version of winPenPack are we talking about?
2) What you intend with "the first window"? The WPP splash screen? The menu or what else?

Hi,

I use the latest version (2.8) of the full package (Expert).

For my problems, see the screen below :



The 2 problems are on the same screen :

- after the bootsplash, the window is centered on the screen (i'd like to move it where i want and keep this position after restart)
- the windows is too narrow to have the 4 tabs in fully sight.

Hi TaZmaniak,
now is more clear...
You couldn't use that window for executing the WPP programs (it is mainly for menu editing options), but you can find the WPP icon in the TrayBar (the fucsia cube on the left). From this icon, with right button, you can open menu and execute programs. The menu shoud be automatically resized with respect to largest string. I think also that you could solve both your questions:
a) unchecking the option "Interface|show window on startup"
b) unchecking the option "Interface|hold window size"
c) checking the option "Various|enable system tray icon"
(Of course, after these changes, restart WPP Launcher...)
Tell me if it solves.

Hi,

It didn't solves because when i left-click. the window open centered and stay too narrow.
But all is accessible from right-click on tray-icon.

Will wait next version if it's possible to implement this


Other question:
Possible to protect the key by using a password on boot ? (Would be a good stuff to put on the todo list )

Very strange, TaZmaniak
are you sure you have unchecked the option "Interface|show window on startup" in first options tab, and checked the option "Various|enable system tray icon" in last options tab? This is necessary for opening WPP Launcher just in tray without opening windows on desktop.
If the window already opens, surely the first option is checked. Could you please post pictures of your options (first and last tab is enough), so we can exclude this fact?

I did it right you said but still not at my taste

Edit : Solved the problem of the narrow window by modifying the french.xml file from the \winPenPack\User\winpenpack_launcher\Lang directory (from "A propos" to "??")

It seems all ok.
Just a question: you don't do a double (left) click on tray icon, right? Otherwise it will show the menu window. It is enough a single click (it is very easy to do double click on Windows, also when you don't want to do it... I am a living example about this ).
If it don't work, maybe there is some trouble on your copy of WPPLauncher, or you have other programs that supercede these mouse clicks (I know, it is a desperate hint...). Be also sure you don't have other copies of WPPLauncher active (end all WPPLauncher tasks with Task Manager) then retry to execute it.

Hi,

Simple left or right click has the same result and works fine.

Double left click open indeed the menu window (which i've corrected by modifying the xml file).


No solution to replace the menu window where i want in place of centered on the screen ?

Hi TaZmaniak,
this is not THE solution, but just a "dirty trick" (you simply shorted the label length...). The right things to do are:
1) be sure the option "Interface|hold window size" is unchecked (as yours)
2) open menu window, as your last picture (you could be expert about this )
3) drag right edge until window width is enough to view correctly all tabs (please, take in mind that menu window width is not automatic... just menu one...).
4) (optional) check option "Interface|hold window size", so non accidental resize could be done in future.
Please let me know if now works. Then you could write back the right string "A propos" in XML file.
