Software name: X-7Zip 9.14 beta [rev7]
Link winPenPack: -Link-
Bug or NOT portability motivation: problems registering context menu
Software license: GNU Lesser General Public License
Possible fix (optional):

Buon giorno guys,

I stumbled across a bug on X-7Zip regarding the context menu.

I tested on a clean virtual Win XP SP3 machine (running on Sun Virtualbox) where never before has any 7zip been installed - unzipping X-7zip, opening it and trying to register the context menu.

I ticked the option "show context menu", chose the entries I wanted to appear, clicked OK and closed 7zip. However the context menu didn't show up - even so after a reboot.

When I opened 7zip the "show context menu" option was still ticked, so I unticked it again, clicked OK, went back ticked it yet again, and so on. I did that several times and after that the context menu showed finally up.

So obviously there's a problem registering the context menu correctly at the first time.

The exact same happens when unregistering the context menu. It didn't vanish at the first try, even though the option was not selected the .dll was still in use - even after a reboot!! I couldn't remove 7zip at all... (or at least the .dll responsible for the context menu).

I guess there has to be done some investigation on that issue. I suggest you try it in a virtual machine yourself to see what I mean.

Thanks guys and please report what you experienced

edit: btw there's 7zip 9.15 out
