Hi JackL,good, every day should be an "Ideas day"...But, I am, perharps, a little limited in English slang, so I didn't understand exactly what you mean. Would you please post some example of "squizzled program"? Thanks!Best RegardsZioZione

Hi ZZI'm sorry, prhaps it's my english insufficiency came out to the light - I'm not native speaker too :]if you take a look on i.e xmplayer, youll see that there is possibility to play files directly from zip container - double profit - you have compressed files and addotionally you have whatever no of files as one icon (folder-like) - if we imagine that we could make portable program to read it's components form such zipped file (or better 7-zipped) we could gain additional space and achieve clear structure on pendrive - there would be only one exe file and one compressed i.e. bin folder

Hi JackL,don't worry, is my limitation, not yours... Your suggestion sounds very interesting, but I think would require a little work... For example, X-Launcher could uncompress the single X-Program you run, use it and, when closing, compress it back. This would allow users to store X-programs .ZIP files directly, without need to install them.I think this could be a good idea for just for programs having few files. But I think also that it would be very difficult to perform for some programs, like X-OpeOffice, X-Gimp, etc.Anyway, thank you for your suggestion! I will forward it to the author.Best RegardsZioZione

Hi JackL,your idea is really good, in fact I've already thought something like that For the incoming new version of X-Launcher, X-Launcher2, I've developed a new way to manage the registry keys. I've called it "X-Registry". That's a 7z archive where registry files (*.reg) are stored in, in a structure similar to the regedit's one.E.G.: the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Audacity" will be saved in the reg file "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Audacity.reg" within the archive "x-registry.7z".At the moment I've implemented this feature only for registry management and don't think to extend it for other staffs, but that's a good start point.I'm going to release the first beta of XL2 most likely in January 2008, so, stay tuned BTW: where are you from?

Poland bros :]I have to say that I haven't expected such as nice call back on my (or your :] ) idea - sadly, I am not a coder but only let's say advanced hobbist so I'm really glad to add my modest contribution to the portability gratness :]will I be too brave asking what d'you think about my other idea with media coder? :] if it would appear feassible, I guess it could be one of the flag "product" of wpp, fearly recognizable and very unique....best regardsand kudos to wpp teamJackL

JackL wrote ...will I be too brave asking what d'you think about my other idea with media coder?Well, if you want to store settings into a zipped archive, you have first to unzip it somewhere to let the program using these settings, and, obviously, and end of session you have to update the zipped archive.ZZ said:"ZioZione" wrote ...I think this could be a good idea for just for programs having few files. But I think also that it would be very difficult to perform for some programs, like X-OpeOffice, X-Gimp, etc.I totally agree with him.On the other hand, XL2 will be something close to a scripting language and that's mean you'll be able to "easily" perform compressing tasks using 7-Zip.
