Hi !

I have a - maybe very special (and maybe odd in some way) - question:

Can X-Software be run from a NON-writeable media (like CD, locked USB-Stick).

I would like to run X-Gimp 2.4.2 for demonstration use from a CD .... is that possible ?

Just for a demonstration you can modify X-Gimp.ini and set the FileSystem.
So, you can redirect the \User directory in the desktop (for example).

Add this portion of code in your X-Gimp.ini :

[FileSystem]
Home=@DesktopDir@\User

Good Morning !

I have tried that out. I have modified the gimp.ini like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------

[Setup]
AppName=Gimp
AppVer=2.4

[FileToRun]
PathToExe=$Bin$\$AppName$\bin\gimp-$AppVer$.exe

[FileSystem]
Home=@DesktopDir@\User

[Environment]
;------------------
;Language (example)
;LANG=en
;------------------
; User Directory
GIMP2_DIRECTORY=$Home$\$AppName$

;Thumbnails Directory
HOME=$Temp$

----------------------------------------------------------------

The "user" directory is created on the desktop.

But that is still followed by an error-message in the setup ..... "The drive is non-writeable. Unlock the drive." (a "gimp-2.4.exe - writelockerror"). After clicking on "quit" or "go on" gimp is starting ......

... well Gimp starts, but is there a solution without that annoying error-message ?

Maybe the ini-file can be modified in that way, that no extra directories are written and no temp-files/directories are needed ?
