Is there an easy way to convert the new X-Openoffice 2.3 in English (or Italian) to German ?

Yes! Install this language pack -Link- to the X-OpenOffice\Bin\OpenOffice directory and open the X-OpenOffice.ini file replacing on line 31:
Line5=it-IT

Line8=it-IT
(I think) with:
Line5=de-DE

Line8=de-DE

Ehm ..... do I have to use the hole OOo2.3 in German or just the German Langpack ?--> your link refers to the hole OOo2.3 package .......

Well done !Is there an alternative way to change language?-> Let's say, I have a regular installation of OOo 2.3 in German on my PC. --> Would it be possible to copy the installed directories and files (german version) to the X-Openoffice Package on my USB-stick, replacing the original files and directories (in Italian/English) there ?---> the idea behind: I assume, the size of the X-Openoffice 2.3 package (in German only now) would be smaller than it is using the method with the additionally installed German Language pack.......I would like to have a "slim" X-Openoffice 2.3 package .....

Well, you have to delete all files present in \Bin\OpenOffice directory >> copy your german OOo (normal) installation directory to \Bin\OpenOffice >> and compress it using UPX Do you known UPX? -Link-

For me the link is working properly!..is pointing to UPXSHELL, present in our site (portable).

I don't know ....... now I have the zip .......How does UPX work ?I guess, I have to apply it on the copied folders in the X-Openoffice-tree ....?

Hi Peter G,X-UPXShell is of very simple use...First of all, goto "English_users" folder and read instructions to localize in English.Then, run X-UPXShell.exe; it should open on "Options" tab, otherwise click on it.In the lower right corner you find "Multipack" button; click it. This will open a new form; from there you can "Browse" to X-OpenOffice folder (please be sure that "Recurse Subdirectories" is checked) and select from the top combo box "*.* (Any file)". "Pack" button will do the job; obviously, just UPX-supported files will be packed (if not already packed).Try and let me know...Best RegardsZioZione

Well I did it !And it indeed worked.But it was a little bit mysterious ...... the UPXShell have brought error-messages for each file ("Fehlgeschlagen") ....... but in fact there was a compression of about 60 MB !!!!So my german version has now about the 280 MB (including Java). Thats fine ! (and that is of course smaller than my first version using your winpenpack original with the german language pack)I have tested it, it works ..... including the start windows of OOo (asking for username, licencese aggrement ...... because I haven't startet my original OOo on my PC before copying the files to the portable version).From my first feel, the plain german version is faster and more "handy" like the multilingual version .....Thanks a lot ......

But this error (as you seen) is not a blocking error. Consider it just an alert, also for better understanding what can be compressed with UPX and what could not.Best RegardsZioZione
