Now I chose the tab called "Advanced" and within that the tab called "General". Within the section "System Defaults" I activated the checkbox called "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup". Afterwards I clicked on the button called "Check Now". Setting X-Firefox as default browser, you must perform some actions that register such information into the registry and, more generally, into the guest PC (independently from the portabilization of X-Firefox). Then, removing the pendrive, you leave the system in an inconsistent state... Not exactly the definition of "portable"... Fortunately, there is a solution, and it comes from winPenPack... Install X-Firefox into winPenPackNet menu, open the X-Firefox properties, click on the Protocols tab, check the "Http/Https" checkbox, press OK button. From this moment on, until the winPenPackNet menu is active (i.e. running), whenever you click an http/https link, X-Firefox is executed, as it were the default browser. When you close winPenPackNet, the default browser of the guest PC returns back to its original value.The only drawback (if you want to call it so) is that you must execute winPenPackNet for having X-Firefox the default browser... But you have so much advantages that I think this little fact is absolutely secondary... Thanks for this surely hard work of programming Hi Dropper,moreover, using ZioZione's suggestion, You can have same possibility to set X-thunderbird as a "temporary" default mail user agent. clicking on "MailTo" option and, if needed, also for your preferred FTP program (x-filezilla maybe? )Anyway, if you don't want to use winPenPack menu and you don't care registry settings, you can use 2 small programs to set x-firefox as "difinitively default browsers".on win XP -> "DefaultBrowser" -Link- on Vista/Seven -> "RegisterFirefoxPortable" -Link- but, in my humbly opinion, in this case I would suggest to run a plain installation of Firefox as the best solution. That's why I think, that your advice, both programs to temporarily use as the default programs, is very useful. But more and more I am increasingly fascinated by the many possibilities of settings in the winPenPackNet menu Of course you are right,that the locally installed version of Firefox offers more features than the portable version.Personally I weigh out, how important are some features of a program for me. And if I want to use them, then of course I install the appropriate program locally.
