I have installed on my PC Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and I have set up it as the default program for opening of *.pdf files. Besides I have integrated the portable program PDF-XChange Viewer in the winPenPackNet menu and there determined, that it should be the default program for opening *.PDF files. All works fine, i.e. if the winPenPackNet menu isn't started, a *.pdf file will opened with the Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and if the
winPenPackNet menu is started, then a *pdf File will opened with the PDF-XChange Viewer.

If the winPenPackNet menu is started, then in the Windows Explorer will appeared the appropriate icon of the PDF-XChange Viewer regarding *.pdf files. But if I have closed the winPenPackNet menu, then in the Windows Explorer not appeared the icon of the Adobe Reader 10.1.3 regarding *.pdf files. How can I solve this problem?

I will explain the solution for the OS WinXP SP3, which is used by myself.

  1. Open the Windows Explorer.
  2. In the menu toolbar click on "Tools".
  3. From the appearing context menu choose the entry "Folder Options"
  4. In the new opened dialog window choose the tab named "Filetypes".
  5. In the section "registered filetypes" search for the filetype named "PDF".
  6. After choice of the filetype "PDF" click on the button "Advanced".
  7. In the new opened dialog window click on the button "Other symbol...".
  8. In the new opened window click on the button "Browse".
  9. Search for the program-exe file on the PC. In my special case I finally chosen the file "AcroRd32.exe" for the Adobe Reader.
