[It] VirtualDub è un programma per l'acquisizione e l'elaborazione di contenuti video e la conversione nei più comuni formati su piattaforma Windows (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), rilasciato sotto la GNU General Public License (GPL). Benchè non offra le caratteristiche di programmi professionali come Adobe Premiere, è concepito per realizzare in modo lineare e veloce operazioni di editing video. Permette l'elaborazione di un gran numero di formati e può essere esteso con filtri di terze parti. VirtualDub è principalmente orientato verso la trasformazione di file AVI, anche se è in grado di leggere (non scrivere), MPEG-1 e gestire set di immagini BMP.

[En] VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

Carissimi, nel caso vi interessasse e visto che virtualdub originale e VirtualDubMod non sono più aggiornati da un pezzo, qua ci sarebbe un'alternativa, VirtualDub2 (ex-VirtualDubFilterMod) sempre open source:
